The handicaps have been published for the Nelson Alexander Preston Reservoir Gifts which will take place on Saturday 21st March during our Centre Championship Weekend.

HOW ARE HANDICAPS DETERMINED?
Athletes qualify for the Gift using their fastest time that they have ran for the season which we call a Personal Best (PB). Once qualified, we then average the three fastest times for each runner and use these averages to determine handicaps. This may mean that athlete A has a faster PB than athlete B but because athlete B has a faster average of their fastest three times, they are handicapped closer to scratch/the start line.We use an average as it helps to provide a more consistent overview of the Gift field times for each runner.

We then use a formula to determine each athletes handicap compared to the athlete with the fastest average time and then round to the nearest half meter. For this reason, there may be some athletes off the same handicap including scratch despite having a slightly different time. There is also a max handicap of 5m for 50m and 10m for 100m – any athlete who is calculated with a handicap exceeding these maximums will be brought back to the capped distance.

All handicaps are final. If anyone has any questions or would like further information, please don't hesitate to speak to Lynton.
