We might be at the end of the summer track and field season but did you know, we have a winter athletics program to keep our athletes fit across the winter months - welcome to Cross Country!
PRLAC is part of the ‘Division One’ Cross Country group along with other NMR Centres. The rotation of venues (including at Edwardes Lake!) creates variety for our athletes and allows them to experience different courses and conditions week to week. All registered athletes U6-U17 from the 2025/26 season are eligible to compete in the XC season. Current 25/26 members registered in Summer Track and Field season are NOT required to re-register with Little Athletics Victoria to compete.
Benefits of participating in Cross Country includes maintaining fitness over the winter, improve fitness, helping with fitness for other sports such as football and soccer, encouraging goal setting with personal bests and others!
Cross Country runs from around 9am to 10am with a warm up commencing at 8:45am. The Cross Country season will run from May through to August with breaks for Regional/State events. A full calendar will be published in the next few weeks. Athletes then will run one race as listed below:
500m (U6), 1000m (U7-U8), 1500m (U9-U10), 2000m (U11-U12), 3000m (U13-U17)
We are offering a free week trial for athletes to give Cross Country a go before being required to pay a $20 fee for the entire duration of the Cross Country season. This money helps goes towards trophies - a minimum of 6 weeks of attendance to receive a trophy).
Our Cross Country presence has been growing over the past few years in line with our wider club growth and we would love as many PRLAC athletes as possible to be involved in Cross Country this season! It is a load of fun and enjoyable by all involved.
