With the Cross Country season just around the corner we reached out to some of our athletes and families who have been enthusiastic Cross Country runners over the past few seasons to get their take of what they love about Cross Country! Lots of praises for the variety of different tracks and the ability to meet athletes from other centres not just the regular PRLAC athletes!
Some Reviews:
“It keeps us fit for winter sport (soccer and school cross country). We get to mix and compete with other centres and it fun to run at new tracks”
“I love running cross country because you get to run in many new places and meet athletes from other centres each week”
“It‘s great to see families and athletes from a variety of centres in our region, and to let the kids run on different terrain. It’s a shorter outing than a regular summer track season too!”
“I love the running bit. I like the opportunity to compete against athletes from other centres, and the buzz from the big crowds cheering me on as I approach the finish line”
“Cross Country is a lovely way for kids to meet others in the region. My son made friends with other athletes from competing centres and he really enjoyed meeting up them them at regional and state events. Makes them feel part of the wider athletics community”
“It is an extremely cheap winter sport and as parents, it is over fairly quickly so you get the joy of keeping your kids in sports for winter without having to give up your whole morning”
“We have been involved for two years now and I really saw my son improve in this summer athletics with keeping his fitness up over winter”
The Cross Country season commences Saturday 3RD May at Keilor from 9am. Each week we compete at a different venue providing great opportunity for athletes to experience and run on different courses and terrain! The calendar is soon to be announced by Division 1 – stay tuned for an announcement soon.
If you are planning on competing this season, please log into ResultsHQ and accept the nomination for May 3rd by clicking on the nomination button at the top of the screen. Athletes only need to nominate for the first week only – if you are not competing the first week but planning to do so in later weeks, please still nominate for the first week.
Distances are as follows:
500m (U6), 1000m (U7-U8), 1500m (U9-U10), 2000m (U11-U12), 3000m (U13-U17)
Each week, there is a $2 Centre race fee for each week attended. The funds go to Divison One to pay for the XC season trophies. You can pay this on the day by seeing Tanya (our new and enthusiastic Cross Country Manager!) Tanya will be your point of contact each week and you will be required to check in with her and pay for $2 each week. Card payment is available.
