Cross Country is back - Key XC season information

15 Apr by Lynton Martin

We are excited to share details about the upcoming Cross Country season! Cross Country is the ‘winter’ Little Athletics program held each week at a rotation of venues focusing on a single long distance event each Saturday morning.

PRLAC is part of the ‘Division One’ Cross Country group along with other NMR Centres. The rotation of venues creates variety for our athletes and allows them to experience different courses and conditions week to week. All registered athletes U6-U17 from the 2024/25 season are eligible to compete in the XC season. Current 24/25 members registered in Summer Track and Field season are NOT required to re-register with Little Athletics Victoria to compete.

Benefits of participating in Cross Country includes maintaining fitness over the winter, improve fitness, helping with fitness for other sports such as football and soccer, encouraging goal setting with personal bests and others!

Athletes will compete in the same age group that they competed in for the 24/25 Track and Field season and must compete in FULL CENTRE UNIFORM including Coles patch and CBA name tag (NO TAG = NO RACE PONTS). Please email us prestonreservoir@lavic.com.au if you have any queries.

We also encourage that you sign up for the Division One Cross Country group on Stack Team App and seek access to view results, course maps, and weekly event information.

Warm Up each week begins at 8:45am – even if the athletes don’t want to participate in the warmup they are still expected to attend when called so that we can work out if races can be combined or not. Races will commence from 9am with the weekly order of events as follows:
500m (U6), 1000m (U7-U8), 1500m (U9-U10), 2000m (U11-U12), 3000m (U13-U17)

If you are planning on competing this season, please log into ResultsHQ and accept the nomination for May 3rd by clicking on the nomination button at the top of the screen. Athletes only need to nominate for the first week only – if you are not competing the first week but planning to do so in later weeks, please still nominate for the first week.

The first competition week will be held at Keilor (Keilor Park Recreation Reserve) on Saturday 3rd May. The full calendar is aimed to be published by the end of next week.

Each week, there is a $2 race fee for each week attended. The funds go to Divison One to pay for the XC season trophies. You can pay this on the day by seeing Tanya (our new and enthusiastic Cross Country Manager!) Tanya will be your point of contact each week and you will be required to check in with her and pay for $2 each week. Card payment is available.

As with other competitions, parent assistance is essential. We have been allocated the Finish Line marshall position each week so we will be looking to rotate this position each week to a different family/parent. This person is to assist at the finish line and will be required to assist for the duration of the weeks competition (9-11am). Please let us know if you are able to fill this duty, if there are any weeks without a parent who have volunteered, we will then allocate a family.

If you have any questions, please reach out to us at prestonreservoir@lavic.com.au

Thanks 🙂
