Little Aths images on private social media

LAVic has become aware of instances that some families have posted images and/or footage of Little Athletes on their private accounts without seeking the permission of the athlete’s families.

This behaviour is a contravention of the LAVic Social Media policy.

The policy reads:

2.4 (f) Respect confidentiality and sensitivity:
(iii). When using social media, be considerate to others and remove information about another person if that person asks you to do so.
(iv). Permission should always be sought if the use or publication of information directly related to an individual. This is particularly relevant to publishing any information regarding minors. In such circumstances, parental or guardian consent is mandatory.

(g) Gaining permission when publishing a person’s identifiable image: (i). As part of the athlete registration process, LAVic seeks permission from parents/guardians use images of Little Athletes for marketing/promotion purposes only. For all other individuals, permission should be obtained to use a direct, clearly identifiable image of that person. There are many families in our sport who have genuine reasons to be aggrieved upon learning that other families are posting and re-posting images of their children on personal accounts.

Please remind your member families of their social media obligations towards Little Athletics, and in particular to seek the permission/consent of other families if posting images of their athletes on a private social media account.

This is often a simple matter of common courtesy and in keeping with the spirit of how our sport should be conducted.
