LAST CHANCE - Julie Hopes & Joanne Bonney Award Nominations

4 Mar by Lynton Martin

A reminder that this is the last chance to nominate PRLAC athletes for the Joanne Bonney & Julie Hopes Awards.

JOANNE BONNEY AWARD
Joanne Bonney was an athlete who had a heart condition and was never supposed to do athletics. She defied all odds and her passion was to do Little Athletics. She was a battler every time she competed. Unfortunately tragedy struck Joanne when her condition caught up with her. She passed away at Under 15 age level. Her father organised that a trophy be inaugurated in her name, to be known as the battler’s trophy. This trophy nominated by PRLAC members and presented every year to the athlete that competes at all times and gives their best. This trophy is presented every year to the athlete that competes at all times and gives their best.

CRITERIA
- This Trophy is presented to an Athlete who although not classed as a “winner” has always followed in the true spirit and tradition of Little Athletics.
- His / Her behaviour on and off the track will be admired by peers, officials and onlookers alike.
- The Athlete is a real “TRIER”. One who competes no matter what the circumstances.

JULIE HOPES SPORTS ATHLETE AWARD

Julie Hopes was an athlete who had scoliosis and enjoyed participating in little athletics even though she only was able to compete in the running and walking events. She commenced from U6’s all the way through to U16’s. Unfortunately, Julie passed away at the age of 26 years but had come back to the Centre to watch her nephews and nieces compete. This Award was named after Julie due to her great fundraising effort for scoliosis and for donating this money to the Centre. Nominated by other PRLAC athletes, this is an award given to an athlete (not necessarily classed as a winner), who has been competing at the Centre.

CRITERIA
- Show initiative with other Athletes.
- Shows good sportsmanship at events while competing.
- Co-operative towards Officials and Parents.
- Pleasant and friendly nature towards other Athletes.
- Regular attendance (at least 80%).
